About PFC Flexible Circuits

Expanding What’s Possible with Flex Technology

Founded in 1997, PFC Flexible Circuits has been at the forefront of advanced flex circuit technology across multiple industries. With extensive engineering experience, PFC works closely with customers to develop efficient, cost-effective solutions that are right the first time. The company focuses on low- to mid-volume, complex flex and rigid-flex circuits, delivering integrated design, manufacturing, and assembly services to meet demanding technical requirements.

Products

The electrical and mechanical requirements of each project determine the most suitable flexible circuit configuration. Selecting the right flex circuit involves balancing performance benefits with total system cost, including inspection, interconnection, tooling, and testing. PFC’s experienced team works closely with customers to identify the optimal flex solution that improves efficiency while controlling overall costs.

Single-Sided Flex Circuits

Single-sided flex circuits represent the simplest form of flexible circuitry. These designs feature a single copper layer bonded to a polyimide substrate, which is chemically etched to create specific circuit layouts. Optional features may include stiffeners, pins, connectors, and mounted components. Their compact form and high durability make them ideal for tight-space applications across a wide range of industries.

Rigid-Flex Circuits

Rigid-flex circuits integrate rigid PCB sections with flexible interconnections into a single unified design, where electrical connections between sections are achieved using plated through-holes. This architecture enables increased component density, improved reliability, and enhanced quality control, making rigid-flex solutions especially valuable in complex applications—such as medical devices—that require both flexibility and structural stability while carrying power and signal across multiple planes.

Double-Sided Flex Circuits

Double-sided flex circuits consist of two copper layers laminated between polyimide dielectrics. Electrical interconnection between layers is created by drilling and copper plating micro vias through the dielectric material. This design supports higher circuit density and expanded routing capabilities while maintaining flexibility.

Sculptured Flex Circuits

Sculptured flex circuits incorporate formed terminal pins that extend beyond the polyimide base material, functioning as integrated through-hole connectors. These pins can be soldered directly into PCB holes or surface-mount pads, often eliminating the need for ZIF connectors. This approach reduces component cost and improves mechanical robustness.

Multi-Layer Flex Circuits

Multi-layer flexible circuits combine multiple single- or double-sided flex layers into a compact, highly interconnected structure. These designs may include shielding, surface-mount components, and complex routing. Layer count is virtually unlimited and is carefully balanced against flexibility and installation requirements to ensure optimal performance.

High-Speed Data Link Flex Circuits

PFC’s High-Speed Data Link flex circuits were developed in collaboration with Samtec to support high-performance digital signal transmission. Designed as a direct complement to Samtec’s Data Link product family, these solutions provide reliable, high-speed interconnects along with expert flex circuit assembly, delivering enhanced signal integrity for demanding data applications.
